First woman to open bank in US was Black!

" Maggie L. Walker, the first woman to open a bank in the US has finally been recognized with a statue in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia—known as the former capital of the confederacy. Walker, the daughter of a former slave, was a humanitarian,

teacher and icon in Richmond in the 1920s. When Maggie L. Walker founded St. Luke’s Penny Savings, she had vision to mobilize the economic power of the Black community in Richmond. The addition of the Walker monument has raised the issue of Confederate monuments in Richmond. The city’s Black mayor has chosen not to follow cities such as New Orleans that have removed the controversial monuments. 

What are your thoughts about historical monuments? Should all confederate monuments be removed? Or should statues representing important figures such as Maggie L. Walker be erected alongside those controversial statues to depict the full picture of American history, the good and the bad?
